2015 Volunteer of the Year

Fairfax Adult Softball Honors Newly Elected Vice President

John Knouff Awarded Volunteer of the Year

Fairfax County — Fairfax Adult Softball (FAS), the largest adult ASA softball league in the country, celebrated the spirit of altruism and selfless-service at PJ Skidoos in Fairfax, Virginia, on Thursday, February 11th.

“This event is one of the only ways we can truly show our appreciation to those that are willing to put in extra hours to make sure the spirit of softball is kept alive” said Program Administrator, Christine Idip. She believes that “if it wasn’t for our amazing, dedicated volunteers, FAS wouldn’t be able to sustain its continued success.”

This year, John Knouff was undoubtedly the most committed of these volunteers and at Thursdays banquet, league President Joe Morice, awarded him the 2015 Ron Bullock Volunteer of the Year.  John was elected as Vice President at our November board meeting and it could not have been better deserved. John has worked diligently to ensure FAS remains the largest and most organized ASA softball program in the nation.

Humbly, Knouff said “winning the Volunteer of the Year award was a complete surprise. When I signed up as a volunteer with FAS, it was to serve its current customer base and community. It was never to collect accolades or to be in the spotlight. To be recognized by FAS and my peers with this prestigious award is an honor that I will cherish every day. Winning this award has made me a part of a very special fraternity that I must and will represent going forward.”

The “Ron Bullock Volunteer of the Year” award was created to recognize individuals who make a substantial commitment to volunteering and improving the FAS program. This award is given to those that demonstrate outstanding volunteer service over the course of 12 months.

Along with the Volunteer of the Year award, we also honored our 2015 Hall of Fame inductees.  Two umpires, one volunteer, two players and a team were introduced by members of the FAS family and presented awards for their dedication to the program. Inductees, staff and members of the FAS Board of Directors and their family members enjoyed a plated dinner and dessert while taking part in this annual event!

“FAS is the largest and best run league in America because of our volunteers.” Said Idip. “The volunteer recognition banquet is the most rewarding event on our annual calendar.”
