2016 Fairfax Adult Softball Officer Elections
At its Board of Directors meeting in November, elections were held for the expiring terms of the President, First Vice President (Umpires) and FAS Treasurer. Long time President, John Carney announced that he “feels confident retiring this year as the program is in the well-deserving hands of Joe Morice.” With the introduction of Joe as President, his Secretary position became vacant and FAS newcomer, Andrew Casteel was voted in. John Knouff ran against two other reputable board members for Vice President and came out victorious. Lastly, Incumbent Peter Cosentino was re-elected by acclimation as Treasurer. They begin their new term of office in January 2016.
Joe Morice joined the executive committee in 2004 hoping to help continue the growth of the FAS program. He then left the program to focus on and enjoy the birth of his daughter. However, his determination to build this program brought him back to FAS in 2009 as the Secretary. Morice is “excited to be given this opportunity by FAS and realizes we have some very big shoes to fill and we are going to work very hard to live up to our predecessor’s standard.”
John Knouff hopes he can live up to this standard as well with his new seat as Vice President. “I have been involved with FAS as a player/manager since 1990. Three years ago I decided to join the Board of Directors to help make a difference for the program and the folks associated with it. My move to the Vice President’s chair is an even more aggressive way of increasing my responsibilities in helping grow the program for years to come. I look forward to the challenge!”
Pete Cosentino, returns to the Executive Committee as treasurer citing, “I’m extremely excited about the direction the program is moving and he’s looking forward to the future.” The future he mentioned includes another new addition to the Committee, player and umpire, Andrew Casteel. Casteel’s energetic and optimistic attitude is exactly what FAS needs. He believes that “Fairfax Adult Softball provides a positive, active outlet to thousands of Fairfax County residents each year. As an executive committee member I plan to help strategically grow the organization so even more residents can participate in our wonderful leagues.”
Our league is successful because of the dedication of these gentleman and all the FAS board members. We also heavily depend on our volunteers and are always in search of new personalities to share brand new ideas. Directors meet monthly throughout the year to review and establish polices and rules for the operation of the program, to provide direction concerning financial and administrative operations, and, in November, elect the officers of the corporation. These officers also meet monthly to direct the FAS program. The Executive Committee includes the President, 1st Vice President (Umpires), 2nd Vice President (Rules), Secretary, and Treasurer. They serve staggered two-year terms to provide for corporate stability. FAS is constantly seeking new voices with enthusiasm to join the board in order to make the program the best it can be!
